Re: comms issues via usb
You're using a desktop PC and it doesnt have a serial port ? That's weird
Or why are you using the USB adaptor ?

why is it weird?
Computer is about a year old, 4 USB ports on the back, 2 on the front, the usual VGA 15 pin serial out, mouse and keydoarb and one random plug I haven't a clue what it is, but its not a 9 pin serial out.

Re: comms issues via usb
Ive just never seen a desktop PC without one.
Almost all peoples connection problems relate to these USB adaptors. So there must be a setting somewhere there, have you configured the adaptor to a virtual COM port ( in device manager )? And matched that com port to the settings in the SWin software ?

Re: comms issues via usb
try a different PC, I have come across similar comms problems with some laptops, some just wont work. Vista and Windows 7 are more troublesome, XP works best.

YES!!
I shall do Martin, my friend Dan spoke to you last night
I couldn't remember what OS I was on actually, its 7 Ultimate, I think Dan might have a laptop with a serial port.
Re: comms issues via usb
Right, got one of martin's leads, USB adapter (very same one as I already have, but different colour) use my mate dan's laptop, month old Samsung thing.
sorted drivers, set port to COM1, set Swin to port 1, error 8020.
different to before on my PC where it would say port in use or ecu not connected or powered up.

I have have a free solution.
I am a hoarder, this is my old PC.
just need to revive it with a HD and find my XP disc!

Re: comms issues via usb
Right, not great with computers so have so far failed to get XP installed on the old PC's.
Hear about WIN 7 compatability mode previously, found it, tried it, no different.
8020 Error with ECU off and cannot attempt to connect any further times with ECU powered up when opening DTASWIN, or COM port already in use if powered up after opening software.
Rapidly becoming disheartened with the lack of forward compatability when other ecu systems seem to manage it, granted my unit is a few year old but has never been used so far and is still a current model.
