Ok I've done the right thing Steve (at last) and I'm happy to report 4 happily sparking plugs, humming away merrily to the tune of dta.

I hadn't realised that the coil test was as easy, I thought it would be a case of running the engine and testing plugs individually.... I'll know next time.

Getting plugs out of a vw flat four with the extra plumbing of fuel injection, in the dark, is an absolute nightmare....

Happy though.

At least you know wiring and coils etc are fine now.
