MAP-sensor in passenger compartment? DTA S80pro
Hello, new user here!
Tried searching but could not find much. Not easy to find the correct english words sometimes.
My plan is to use this kind of GM MAP-sensor from Vauxhall/Opel Astra.
Can i mount it inside the passenger compartment? The tube from the inlet manifold would be about 1,5 meters long.
The engine im using is a C30SE, 3 litre 24 valve straight six from Vauxhall/Opel Senator. Stock inlet manifold to start with, maybe i will build ITBs later.
It sits in an Opel Commodore -77 now, with stock Bosch Motronic 1.5 at the moment.

Re: MAP-sensor in passenger compartment? DTA S80pro
its possible, id use a very small bore hard pipe for most of the run though.

Ok, that sounds good.
I already have a pneumatic plastic tube run through the firewall, it is relatively stiff walled.
Inner diameter ~4 mm. Is that too large or should i change it to a smaller one?

I use 4mm OD nylon tubing for mine. 4mm ID would be 6mm OD
Plenty of ecu's these days run an on-board map sensor, so putting the map sensor inside the car is no problem at all. Just note the usual mounting rules. ie always mount with the sensor pointing downwards so no fluid can ever gather in the sensor.
Ideally I'd have the sensor mounted high though and close to the engine

Re: MAP-sensor in passenger compartment? DTA S80pro
More good info, thanks alot!
The reason to put the sensor inside the pass. compartment was to save some cable, i got the sensor of a junkyard car and could only dig out about 40 cm cable.
Of course i can splice on some more cable.
Funny thing with the tube that sat on the car, it was maybe 6 mm ID all the way. Maybe there was a reduction on the plenum.
Looking into the pipe on the sensor there is a very small hole at the bottom, so that would act as a reduction too i think.

Another question as i am in the process of building my wireloom now.
Is it absolutely necessary to twist the wires from the coolant and intake air temp sensors?

not really, I don't. but i use screened singles (twisted & screened for magnetic rotating i.e. crank) for all my sensors. best if you can twist however

Not needed, but it can be good practise.
I havent twisted any of the wires on my loom. The only one that is twisted, is a separate twisted pair cable for the crank sensor which is not fully integrated to the loom.

Alright, the only drawback is that i will have to replace the stock rubber tubing protecting the wires.
Maybe best to do that anyway just to check the condition of the wires.
I will twist all sensor wires then, including the TPS and MAP wires.
The stock crank and Hall sensor wires are pairs with a separate screen and an outer insulation on top of it all.
All of my wires will come together the last 50 cm closest to the DTA box, in the engine compartment sensor wires are located on one side of the engine and the power wires run along the firewall to the other side.
Only sensor wires going with power wires is the Hall sensor wires, but the sensor is a 12V unit so it should not be very sensitive i think.

Re: MAP-sensor in passenger compartment? DTA S80pro
It is not necessary to twist or shield Hall sensors.
The only sensor wires that are very fussy, are magnetic sensors and they should be twisted and shielded.
