Canbus Speed output

Post by flatplaneDTA »

Am I correct that the S80 (With the most recent firmware) will output Speed in VSS form over the Canbus?

I'm trying to drive a Toyota variable speed power-steering unit.

Best Regards, Flatplane

The user instruction manual does suggest speed in kph is transmitted via CAN.

Of course that will also need you to provide the ecu with a speed signal of some sort too

Hi, it is one thing for the ECU to emit a signal via CAN and quite another for the steering to recognize what the CAN emits.

there are external modules to make it work. even for some toyota model.

Correct, I have the Toyota external module, according the docs I've read it requires speed from Canbus in VSS format. From what I can
tell that is KPH.

That doesn't mean it's on the same CAN speed rate, the same bus identity/location etc etc.

Can you program the receiving module to the data that the DTA is sending ?

If not, you may need a CAN bridge to translate what the fixed DTA data bus is, to what the Toyota module is wanting to receive.

It would be like DTA talking spanish, and the Toyota only understanding Japanese. They may be saying the same speed, but will not understand each other.
