My project is very basic compared to the others here, just a simple engine transplant
The old engine was a very basic 2 valve engine with 1 cam sensor, but the replacement is the full fat 4 valve version with 2 continuously variable cams, a switchable intake, coil on plugs and a DBW throttle. It's going to be quite a challenge to map.
Here's the victim, my 1994 Corrado VR6, which I've had for 8 years and has done just under 200K miles.
In goes the 2007 Golf R32 engine (3.2 litre).....
...and standard wiring harness, because it's way better than anything I could make myself!

DTA DBW controller and a suitable pedal...
The STC is installed in the glovebox as it's not waterproof and it doesn't get hot.
The pedal took a lot of work to get in with the car previously having a cable operated throttle but I'm pleased with how it went in.
The R32's ridiculous standard 3" throttle! I'll see how this one works out but I can see myself installing a smaller one!

All 6 coils seem to work too, which is a relief as so many people seem to have trouble with them...

It's great and yeah it uses the DBW for idling too. I can't begin to tell you how much better idling with the throttle plate is
So my 4 teeth cams are presenting some mapping headaches.
Inlet cam....
Exhaust cam....
Both at once...
The humps are chopped because the motor was firing on residual fuel (coils unplugged), but they still work OK as TDC markers.
I need to use Flywheel mode 26 and customise the cam signal mask to pick out 2 from that lot which I can use for the cam static angles. I might have to ask Allan for help with this

A proper scope image would be more helpful. I really can never make sense of the DTA scope.

Yeah it's not the easiest of things to understand. It's certainly more of a mess than I'm used to!

Got some clarification from Allan this morning about how flywheel mode 26 works.
It's actually dead simple. It looks for a unique gap (there always is one in a 4 tooth wheel) between teeth. For example, my inlet cam sensor's gap is between teeth 15 & 28 and the exahust gap is between teeth 8 & 21, so the gap is the same for both: 13 teeth.
The filter looks for this gap of 13 and rejects all the others. So a lower limit filter of 10 and and upper limit of 15 should be narrow enough to achieve this, with a couple of teeth tolerance for slight variation.

I haven't configured it yet.
Have you confirmed your cam mechanics work?
1) Set cam to on and turn off pid.
2) Note inlet cam position in diagnostics page.
3) Fill cam PWM table with 100% entries
4) See if cam position has moved in diagnostics page.
As it happens, the R32 cam will move about 50 degrees from 80% PWM.
You may need to choose "Reverse Cam Operation" depending on what direction your cam position moves (retard or advance).
VW map the R32 to have maximum advance @ 2500rpm and max load, which is about 41 degrees. This will find you about 40lbft more torque.
When I have mapped my cam I will share the details but I just don't have the time at the moment!
