Turbo overpressure / overboost questions

Post by TRN »

Hi,

I've got two questions regarding how DTA handles the overpressure / overboost parameter.
As I understand, overpressure protection cuts spark+fuel to force the engine to cut in case of failed wastegate, piping etc (so not just a 0% PWM on the boost control).

S100 ECU, FW version 89.

-If "Turbo control On?" is disabled in Turbo Parameters, will the overboost protection system still work?
-If the engine cuts fuel, will this register as 0% in the Injector Duty Cycle as broadcasted on the CAN stream?

Our car ran a session where a failed wastegate hose caused the engine to overboost, not just a few kPa, but up to 100kPa above the overpressure limit. Was running without boost control (running on wastegate spring) at the time, so trying to diagnose the problem (or actually, diagnosing why it spiralled into a bigger problem than need be  ).

thanks a lot,
Tom

If turbo control is not on, overboost will not work. That is only calculated as part of the boost control strategy.

No, the calculated fuel is still shown on the CAN data, as the ECU will be on particular load site. All it does is prevent the coils and injectors firing.
