Unknown crank sensor error

Post by c2turbo »

I am running an s80 for years, we did some engine out work and after reinstall we are not getting a crank sync. the crank diag looks fine on the graph but says it cant ref a known crank sensor or that it may already be a known sensor. In the past it has always goes green and shows 60-2 and sync, any ideas on why it will not sync

Thanks Dave

That's a perfect 60-2 crank with no cam sensor.

Check General Engine Settings is set to 60-2, and the Gap Tooth Factor is 2000.

Is there a cam sensor on the engine? What engine is it?
Alternatively post a map so I can see what's there.

This is a 3.8l 911 twin turbo there is a cam trigger but it is not hooked up yet so running in batch this is a known config and have been running for the last 10 years , we did change to cop / fuel content sensor and a 3.5 bar map sensor. It just does not want to sync, i have a new sensor on the way for crank and cam both are mag

Just stumped on the sync

Thanks dave

Where should i post the map?

That map is just a load of zeros.
Did you download that from the ECU?

The problem is the One Coil Per Plug option is ticked, but there's no cam sensor connected.
I suspect what's happened is that someone has ticked this as the car now has COPs. However, this requires a cam sensor to be connected and working, as per the message at the bottom of the screen.
To run the car in the meantime, un tick this option, and tick the Twin Spark option in General Engine Settings. This will run the COPs in wasted spark mode.

There is nothing wrong with the existing crank sensor.

Ok i was able to get the car started in batch and had a chance to get the Cam sensor wired in this afternoon and have a few questions about setting up cam sensor position in degrees. is there an easy way to determine this with the Crank osliscope ?
The car will not start with sequential turned on but shows synced so I am guessing that cam sync is wrong. I am using a 6 tooth wheel for cam sync and attached is the crank info.

Also something strange has started happening since I installed the cam sensor, when I turn the key on after trying to start the car the coils will spark and ignite fuel in the cylinder and cause a backfire even thought I am not trying to spin the engine over It has done this 5-6 times ( one big one through the exhaust and a few small ones through the intake ) why it it triggering the coils when I am just turning on the ignition?

Thanks as always
David
