BMW M42 /M44 Newbie question

Post by Topgun »

Hello
complete newbie so be gentle .
I purchase a BMW Compact with a M42 engine which regrettably was not build correctly so had to come out to be done , been with the engine shop a while so as I had a spare M44 thought id put it in to use that , however schoolboy error as the M44 has no crank sensor , so before I pull it out again to swap it with a M42 I have managed to get is there any way of getting the ECU to ignore the crank sensor ( as the M44 doesn't need or use one it ) or is it a case of getting a different loom etc .
any advice and explanations gratefully appreciated
DTA S60 pro
Hardware 7.00
firmware 82.10

thanks in advance
regards

found this on the M44 and the crank trigger is on the crank inside the engine? go to the end of the vid, looks like a 64-2 no idea where the sensor is.

big hole in the side of the block at 5 mins seems a likely spot for a crank sensor

M44 appears to have a sensor:

I've never seen a BMW that doesn't use the standard 60-2 pattern.

A lot of OEM's are! Using the flywheel or an internal toothed wheel keeps an external toothed wheel or sensors away from clumsy cavemen meckniks using pry bars for belt, water pump or alternator changes! LOL!
