Bosch 3 pin idle valve on S100 & twin vanos BMW

Post by mefmotorsport »

I'm currently wiring an S100 for an S50B32 twin vanos BMW engine. The customer wants to use the normal Bosch 3 pin Idle bypass valve, I've wired pin 8 for one side but the usual "Fast-side" output on pin 33 is already being used by a Vanos solenoid. Can anyone tell me if its possible to use pin32 which is currently vacant?

Thanks,

Martin

OK, thanks, I suspected as much but had to ask to be sure! I did suggest that the DTA active idle control would be the best option, many users and mappers don't even realise it exists and it's so good.

I don't know why anyone bothers with idle valves anymore.

Yep...DBW is the future

Problem is a lot of valves seem slow to respond, and certainly for aftermarket ecu's either flow to much air making them difficult to get right, or flow too little.

Nope, just ignition control. Air takes time to travel, ignition is instant. DBW is just an oversized idle valve

Yes, it works brilliantly well once Steve Greenald showed me how to set it up. I can start my BMW from the button with no throttle from stone cold, go away and leave it to warm up. The idle speed is perfectly well controlled throughout the process and its perfect. All done by the ignition advance/retard control.

Ignition is fast and is the initial response, but has limitations.

That's why you use both.

Could someone make some guidance for advance/retard idle control. I have ITB on my 2l fiat engine with no air idle control. I use advance/retarde idle ontrol and it works good when engine is hot, but when engine is cold it acts like it has some reset function; it has some 15°of advance and engine is working good, but it seam that it has some intervals, maybe some 15 seconds, so ever 15 sec it suddenly drops advance to 0° and than it starts to slowly build advance to 15 but when engine is very cold it stalls, build up advance is to slow, drop is sudden.

Sorry for my bad english,
Chears
