Short video

Post by stevieturbo »

Couple of videos from the weekend. My first time at a local short sprint. Full lap is about 1.5 miles and the sprint was about a lap and a half
Was using some used slicks, but due to big old heavy car ( 1700kgs with me in it ), grip was borderline, especially under braking.

All in all a great day out for my first time though.

Only run the damn camera worked on ! That was my first timed run, second was just a fraction quicker. Traction control seemed to work well too as can be heard. Certainly much better than it does on the road on road tyres.
Only used 3rd and 4th, would have been no point dropping to 2nd, top speed only about 130-135mph...which was enough when I needed to slow down !

I was sort of below half field, my best was 159.45s, 46 out of 66 timer runners ( plus 10 who didnt receive times )

Whilst I dont know the spec of these cars...

Pilbeam MP82 class 15, 119.40
Evo 6, class 12, 156.58
Westfield class 4, 157.84
Vaux VX220 class 9, 166.75
Honda Stricker class 7, 182.21

All in all I'm happy enough and thought the time quite respectable for what the car is, plus I drove it there and back. Most cars there were trailered.
Weight is my killer, it just doesnt go around corners quickly and struggles slowing down as could be seen at the chicane ( which I completely missed on the practice lap before lol )

I had a Kevlar bonnet made...and saved 10kgs lol After that I decided it wasnt worth spending the money to make it lighter.
So with a full tank and me on board it's around 1700kgs.

It would just be difficult to make a significant impact on that without spending a lot of money

I did re-work the front suspension and cradle a year or so ago which probably saved 10-15kgs...but the cage and respray the year before added a fair whack. I'd say 40-50kgs or so.

Unless I go for lots of carbon panels, doors etc there just isnt any way to make a decent reduction. And as all of those would be custom made, they would be expensive even if I attempt them myself.
It isnt a track car so I'm not bothered about the weight too much.
